1. In what ways does your media product use, develope and challenge the forms and conventions of real media products.

In todays lesson i looked at answering the question 'in what ways does your media product, use, develope and challenge the forms and conventions of a real media product?.'
To do this i evaluated whether i had used the codes and conventions of a music magazine.

2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Obviously the main representation accurse in my front cover.  My main image for my front cover is a male, which suggest my magazines social group may be male orientated. He has longish dark hair which looks scruffy and is also holding a guitar this suggest that people within the social group are usually involved with playing music as well as listening to music. He is posing in a very confident, wild manner this also suggests that people within the social group are confident and behave in a wild manner thus attracting the social group. Moreover All of the bands or people named on my front on my front cover are male, showing that most of my target audience are male.
My double page spread contains an article on a 'male' rock band. all members are male this tells us that the social group is built up of mainly males. Moreover the language used in my double page spread is informal and uses swearing, this portrays the social group as rebellious therefore attracting the target audience.  The photograph used in my double page spread is very striking, the band look ‘fun’ and therefore suggests that the social group is very fun and out going.
My magazine features things like ‘Duff and the bottle’ which suggest that the social group is rebellious and extreme this would attract the social group appealing to there interest. Moreover the photography used is adventurous and stresses individuality. E.g. the photograph of Paul for the contents page shows him ‘swearing’ in a pose suggesting that this genre breaks the rules and has attitude, attracting the social group. In addition the photographs show a lot about the social group as they are not mainstream and represent a rebellious, individual look. E.g. they have big striking hair that stands out thus attracting the social group, which would appreciate the look.

3.What kind of media institution might Distribute your media product and why?

I created a powerpoint to answer question 3 to show a range of media skills in which i can use.

4. My target audience.

when creating the profiles on my target audience i found that their favourite bands were Led zeplin, Foo fighters, Skindred and Faith no more. Here are some examples of these bands...

5. how does your media product attract/address your target audience?

To attract my audience i looked through a range of music magazines of the same genre and also made a questionnaire into what things my target audience would like in their magazine. eg. i asked what their favourite colour was, the most popular colour was green and i have therefore used a green colour scheme for my front cover. i also used short coverlines, bold lettering and bright colours to attract my audience. moreover i dressed my models in clothing to suit the genre e.g. my contents page features models dressed in dark, alternative clothing of the rock style this will therefore attract an audience of the same style. the main image on my front cover includes the model holding a guitar this will attract my target audience who are interested in that type of music or instruments. my photographs also convey a sence of attitude and rebelion which will attract my audience and gain their attention. in addition i used informal language and addressed my audience directly, which would attreact them to this magazine as it is one the same level as they are, rather than using elaborate language which they might not understand.

6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

7. Looking back on your preliminary task what do you feel you have learnt in the prcess form it to the final product.

As you can see looking at my preliminary task and my actual media product my skills on Photoshop have improved extremely. i have also learnt more about codes and conventions of a music magazine and therefore my actual media task looks more professional and looks more like a magazine. Moreover my Photography skills have been developed as i am now aware of m.e.s and can therefore take a more interesting photograph with the relevant m.e.s. In addition i have become a lot more creative by looking at other music magazines. i have also became familiar with Quark where i can create professional looking contents and articles. i have also learnt camera angles e.g. mid shot, long shot and close up and used them when taking my pictures. i have learned to use less text in my sub lines to draw the reader in. Moreover i have developed knowledge about the size of writing, through researching the codes and conventions, meaning that my main task has relevant font times and font titles and all the cover lines are the same font and size unlike on my preliminary task, this makes it look more professional.
I preferred creating the music magazine rather than the school magazine as i got to write and take pictures about something i am interested about, as well as having more knowledge of creating a magazine which therefore made it more enjoyable.
